Basheera Surty

Co-Founder | Occupational Therapist
I grew up in Rustenburg and now I live in Johannesburg. I trained and got my certification as a neuro-developmental therapist and have a special interest in sensory integration. I am also the founder of Diketo Inclusive Education, an organization that supports and trains Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners in building inclusive communities. I have worked with and learnt from some amazing organisations in the NPO sector (such as Cotlands, Afrika Tikkun, Play Africa, Uhambo, Malamulele Onward and Thusanani Children's Foundation) as well as the government departments of Basic Education and Social Development. I was nominated by News 24 as one of the “100 Young Mandela’s of the future” based on my work on inclusion for children with disabilities. I am passionate about creating opportunities for social justice where all children can be free and independent to develop at their very best. I see online therapy as a vehicle to make this possible in a culturally appropriate and fun way!

Co-Founder | Occupational Therapist
I’m originally from the Eastern Cape but live in Cape Town now. I’m passionate about creating spaces where all children can feel empowered and included. I have worked in special needs education, employment programmes for young people with disabilities and with community organisations as an innovation manager to applify impactful initiatives. I see online therapy closing the gap between those who can access private therapy services and those who cannot and THAT makes me so excited! I am also a mother of twin girls and have experienced the value of online support during the early years of my children’s lives. My hope is that the principles of play and conscious parenting can be more widely spread through our online services.
